Description
-
I created this video to serve as an engaging opening to my course.
-
I created the text animations in Adobe After Effects.* I recorded and edited myself whispering the branding words in Adobe Audition* before importing it to After Effects. Of course, my original image (previously submitted) was created in Adobe Photoshop* and imported into After Effects for this video. The background music and “boom” sound effect are from the Creative Commons licenses listed below. Once everything was set in After Effects, I imported the project into Adobe Premiere to add the closed captions.

Mayer’s Multimedia Design Principles
-
Multimedia principleL I mixed animated text, audio narration, and music to convey the message.
-
Contiguity principle: I say the brand words as they appear on the screen.
-
Signaling principle:There are several signaling features, including the size of the text indicating the importance, the audio narration, loud whispers, representing people talking behind someone’s back, the words jumping around representing that perception can come from any direction, and the backing music track, adding an additional pulse of urgency and drive.
-
Pretraining principle::This video is a visual, multimedia representation of the lesson to follow, introducing concepts and ideas that the lesson will cover.
-
Learner control principle: Learners have the opportunity to pause, rewind, play, etc.
-
Personalization: I personalize it through the use of the word “you.”
Made-to-Stick principles
-
Simple: It is a straightforward video composed of text features.
-
Unexpected: It contains interesting vocalizations (whispers) and exciting music.
-
Concrete: The text colors and sizing to really make the concept concrete.
-
Credible: The idea is simple and easy to understand and believe.
-
Emotion: It creates an emotional story by leading the students to think about their current public image.
-
Story:It inspires learners to take control and own their narrative.
